Saturday's Vallarta Cup Race, the second in the series, gave racers from all over Banderas Bay a challenging triangle course, finished by windward-leeward laps. Race officer Al Garnier delayed the race for 30 minutes waiting for wind, then started all classes in a somewhat variable 8 knots. The daily thermal breeze didn't increase after that, forcing Al to shorten the course for Crusing Class A, Multihull Class B and Performance C.
As in the first race, Olas Lindas led Performace class most of the race, and was first to cross the finish line. Daniel Zaragoza's Mony was first in Performance class after handicap adjustment, however, the same result as the first race.
Racers were again treated to excellent whale watching during the race - at one point a racer reported seeing two whales and two dolphins playing together.
All met at the VYC clubhouse for an evening of bragging and Jimmy Buffett music.
We are grateful to photographer John Pounder who took excellent photos of the event. You can see his gallery here.
