As part of our core mission to serve the Banderas Bay Community, Vallarta Yacht Club provides a number of weather and tide related resources specific to Banderas Bay and the Eastern Pacific. These resources are provided to help boaters and residents of Banderas Bay better understand ongoing weather activity, which is particularly important during summer and early fall, when changes in sea temperature and surrounding weather patterns bring rain, and sometimes severe weather.
VYC's "Storm Track and General Weather"
The Storm Track and General Weather image is a custom map created using the Google Maps API, and is unique to VYC's weather page.
It brings in weather information from a number of sources, including:
- Storm track predictions from the South Florida Water District (which in turn have been generated from a number of worldwide weather models)
- Storm track cones from the National Hurricane Center
- Clickable 5-day weather outlooks for worldwide cities from Weather.com
- Satellite cloud cover images from the US. Naval Research Lab
Taken together, this map with the weather prediction overlays gives an excellent overview of current and predicted weather for the area. The abiltiy to zoom and move to different specific areas provides an excellent weather resource for anyone on the Mexican west coast.
Other Weather Products
In addition to the custom weather page, VYC weather products include maps and satellite imagery from over 15 sources in the United States, Mexico and Europe. As situations change and new sources become available, the VYC Weather Resources page will add or take away resources as needs require.
